Self-Made Obstructions.

The human mind is a fascinating yet unpredictable place where ideas and concerns move freely in and out without any semblance of control. Though we may desire to regulate how our minds operate, it is not something that many people can do so cleanly. My work, Self-Made Obstructions, examines how my subconscious thoughts and anxieties interfere with my day-to-day life. I have always been one to overthink and overprocess situations before settling on any decision. Thinking, imagining, and sometimes blowing things out of proportion are ways my mind copes with reality and my truths. The self-sabotaging nature of my psyche is shown in this body of work: the overwhelming potential of a blank wall, the ways that I end up burning through ideas before giving them a fair chance, and the energy it takes to open every door before walking through one. By creating this project, I have not only started a journey of self-discovery, but I have also realized what roles my mind and thoughts play in my life.

Several of the images in this series were awarded an Honorable Mention in the 22nd Julia Margaret Cameron Award for Women Photographers Show in 2024. This is a biennial competition that showcases the work of women photographers and is hosted by FotoNostrum, the Mediterranean House of Photography in Barcelona, Spain.
